Cala Coticcio

A tiny inlet of dazzling white sand and pink granite, where the sea turns into turquoise shades of rare intensity.

Discover Cala Coticcio

Cala Coticcio is one of Caprera’s best-known gems: a small inlet set between high walls of pink granite, opening onto two tiny stretches of ultra-fine, almost white sand. The sea, sheltered by this natural amphitheatre, takes on vibrant shades ranging from milky blue to intense turquoise.

The rocks surrounding the cove have been sculpted by wind and time into sharp, rugged shapes, broken up here and there by patches of low vegetation clinging to the cracks in the stone. In the calmest moments, the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks is the only noise accompanying the landscape.

Cala Coticcio is a place that strikes you with its intimacy: just a few elements – sand, rock, sea and Mediterranean scrub – in constant dialogue with one another, in an almost perfect balance. And it is from the dinghy that the true magic of Sardinia’s “Tahiti” is revealed: entering this natural setting from the sea lets you float right in the heart of the archipelago’s most intense turquoise waters, avoiding the long walk on foot and feeling like an integral part of this open-air aquarium.

What to expect in this paradise

Pink rocks embracing a small inlet of white sand and a sea whose colour seems almost fluorescent: Cala Coticcio is Caprera’s “postcard-perfect” bay, intimate and astonishing.

Cala Coticcio is located on the island of Caprera, within the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park, in north-eastern Sardinia. It lies along the eastern coast of the island and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire archipelago.

Caprera is connected to the nearby island of La Maddalena by a bridge, but Cala Coticcio is situated in a more remote and less accessible area, surrounded by a natural landscape of granite rocks, Mediterranean vegetation and incredibly clear waters.

The cove is often nicknamed “Tahiti” due to its tropical-like colors, with water ranging from turquoise to deep blue and light seabeds that enhance the transparency of the sea.

Cala Coticcio can be reached both by land and by sea, but the two options offer completely different experiences.

By land, it requires a trekking route starting from the north-eastern side of Caprera. The trail takes around 30–40 minutes, includes exposed sections and requires a good level of fitness. During certain periods of the year, it is mandatory to be accompanied by an authorized park guide.

By sea, Cala Coticcio is easily accessible by boat or RIB and is one of the most requested stops during tours in the archipelago.

It is considered one of the most spectacular coves in Sardinia and is often compared to tropical destinations, which is why it is commonly referred to as the “Tahiti of Sardinia.”

Another distinctive feature is its relatively secluded location: since it is not immediately accessible, it has preserved a more wild and untouched character compared to other beaches in the archipelago.

The seabed is light and sandy, enhancing the color of the water, while the rocky sides make it an excellent spot for snorkeling.
