Cala Spinosa
A small cove nestled among wind-sculpted granite rocks, where the sea takes on intense shades beneath the cliffs of Capo Testa.
Discover Cala Spinosa
Cala Spinosa lies on the north-western side of Capo Testa, in a stretch of coastline where granite dominates the landscape with smooth, wind-shaped forms. The cove is small and intimate, with a strip of pale sand mixed with rocky sections that descend directly into the sea. The setting feels more secluded than the wide beaches nearby, yet remarkably scenic.
The sea here is exceptionally clear and becomes deeper within a short distance from the shore. Colors range from bright turquoise to deep blue, shifting constantly with light and the currents of the Strait of Bonifacio. The surrounding granite formations create striking contrasts of light and shadow, making the scenery continuously dynamic.
Behind the beach, Mediterranean scrub climbs between the boulders, while above rises the rugged profile of the Capo Testa promontory. On certain days, the wind can ripple the water’s surface, enhancing the wild character of this coastal corner.
Reaching Cala Spinosa by dinghy allows you to fully appreciate its natural setting: from the sea, the cove appears tucked between rocks, almost hidden compared to the more open stretches of coastline. Including it in a dinghy tour between Rena di Ponente and the cliffs of Capo Testa means alternating sandy beaches with rocky coves, experiencing one of the most iconic and untamed landscapes of northern Sardinia.
What to expect in this paradise
Carved rocks, deep water and vibrant colors: Cala Spinosa is pure nature at the foot of the promontory.

Fun Facts and Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Cala Spinosa located?
Cala Spinosa is located in the area of Santa Teresa di Gallura, in the Capo Testa peninsula, at the northernmost tip of Sardinia, overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio.
It is a small cove set among impressive granite rock formations shaped by wind and sea, in one of the most scenic landscapes of northern Sardinia.
Its position offers wide open views towards Corsica, which is clearly visible on days with good visibility, making the area particularly striking from a landscape perspective.
How can you reach Cala Spinosa?
Cala Spinosa can be reached by land from Santa Teresa di Gallura, heading towards Capo Testa and then continuing on foot along a rocky path that descends towards the cove.
The final part of the access requires some attention due to uneven and rocky terrain, making it less suitable for those looking for easy beach access.
Arriving by sea is a highly recommended alternative, as it allows direct access to the cove without the need to walk and offers a better perspective of the coastline.
With Flag Sardinia’s luxury RIB boats, Cala Spinosa can be included in a customized itinerary along the northern coast, with the option of bareboat rental for licensed guests or a skippered experience.
What is Cala Spinosa known for?
Cala Spinosa is known for its rugged and dramatic landscape, one of the most distinctive in the Capo Testa area, where granite formations shaped by wind create a unique natural setting.
Unlike the typical sandy beaches of Gallura, this cove is characterized by rocks and natural platforms, offering direct access to the sea rather than a traditional shoreline.
The water is exceptionally clear and becomes deep just a few meters from the shore, making it particularly suitable for swimming and snorkeling, with rich underwater visibility and marine life.
Cala Spinosa is also known for its exposure to the winds of the Strait of Bonifacio, which can create more dynamic sea conditions compared to more sheltered beaches. This aspect adds to its charm but should be considered when planning a visit.
What can you do at Cala Spinosa?
At Cala Spinosa, activities are closely linked to its natural setting, making it ideal for those looking for a more active and immersive experience rather than a traditional beach day.
Swimming takes place directly from the rocks, with deep and crystal-clear water, perfect for snorkeling along the rocky walls and exploring the underwater environment.
The area is also ideal for exploring, with granite formations offering natural viewpoints and flat rock areas where visitors can relax.
Arriving by sea completely changes the experience: it becomes possible to choose the most sheltered spots depending on wind conditions and to include Cala Spinosa within a broader itinerary along Capo Testa, combining it with other nearby coves.
What is the best time to visit Cala Spinosa?
Cala Spinosa can be visited from May to October, but the best time depends more on sea and wind conditions than on the season itself.
June and September are often ideal months, offering a balance between good weather and fewer visitors.
During the peak summer season, the cove becomes more frequented but remains less crowded than easier-access sandy beaches.
It is important to consider wind exposure: the Strait of Bonifacio is a windy area, and during strong Mistral conditions the sea can become rough, making swimming and access more challenging.
Why visit Cala Spinosa during a RIB boat tour?
Visiting Cala Spinosa by RIB boat is one of the best ways to fully experience this cove.
Access by land involves a rocky path, while arriving by sea allows direct approach, better positioning depending on wind conditions and a more flexible experience.
In addition, Cala Spinosa fits perfectly within a broader itinerary along the Capo Testa coastline, including other coves and scenic spots that are difficult to reach from land.
With Flag Sardinia’s luxury RIB boats, the experience is fully customizable: licensed guests can navigate independently, while a skipper can help optimize the route and select the best locations throughout the day.

ECCELLENTE In base a 101 recensioni Pubblicato su Feline Heine21/06/2026Trustindex verifica che la fonte originale della recensione sia Google. One word, Amazing!!! First of all, we would like to thank Gabriele & Ludovico for the amazing communication and guidance, not only during the booking process but also during the day of rental. They were very transparent about costs, we had a great check in/check out process, and they respond very well and clear during our communication on mail. They were absolutely wonderful. We both have our nautical license so we were able to book the R6 without a skipper. This was no problem at all. We went to multiple (recommended) places in the area of Porto Rotondo and they were beautiful. Water so clear as you see on the pictures and we even saw dolphins, twice!! The service they provide is like no other and included drinks, snacks, towels, water-shoes you name it. It was an experience we will never forget! Will definitely go back here whenever we are in Sardinia.Pubblicato su Sabrina Mechta20/06/2026Trustindex verifica che la fonte originale della recensione sia Google.
