Spalmatore di Terra

Spalmatore di Terra lies on the southern side of Tavolara Island and is the island’s widest and most recognizable beach. It stretches in a long arc of pale sand at the base of the imposing limestone cliff that defines Tavolara’s dramatic profile. The contrast between the vertical rock face and the horizontal shoreline creates one of the most iconic landscapes within the Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area.

The seabed slopes gently and keeps the water relatively shallow near the shore, with shades ranging from emerald green to bright turquoise. Further offshore, the blue gradually deepens, yet the water remains exceptionally clear thanks to the quality of the sea and the presence of sandy bottoms mixed with patches of posidonia. On calm days, the surface reflects the imposing outline of the island-mountain, enhancing the feeling of being in a truly unique setting.

Behind the beach, low Mediterranean vegetation spreads across the land, interrupted by small buildings linked to the island’s historical and military presence. The environment remains simple and nature-dominated: the limestone wall towers above the entire area, strongly shaping the landscape and making Spalmatore di Terra a visible landmark even from a distance.
