Porto Rafael

Porto Rafael is a residential seaside village overlooking one of the most scenic stretches of sea in northern Gallura, just a short distance from Palau and directly facing the La Maddalena Archipelago. Founded in the 1960s as an exclusive retreat, it still preserves a distinctive Mediterranean identity characterized by white houses, panoramic terraces, granite stairways, and small squares opening toward the sea.

The main bay is compact and luminous, with pale sand alternating with wind-shaped granite rocks. The water is exceptionally clear, displaying shades that range from emerald green to deep turquoise, especially on calm days when the sea lies almost perfectly still in front of the village. Nearby, smaller coves and rocky inlets offer peaceful stops away from more crowded beaches.

From the water, Porto Rafael appears like a natural amphitheater: white homes emerge among Mediterranean scrub and pale granite, while the silhouettes of La Maddalena and Caprera rise in the background. Cruising by dinghy along this stretch of coastline reveals its intimate and refined character, making it an ideal stop between Palau, Punta Sardegna, and the first islands of the archipelago.
