Isola dei Gabbiani Beach

Isola dei Gabbiani, also known locally as Isuledda, is a unique coastal formation almost entirely surrounded by the sea and connected to mainland Sardinia by a narrow ribbon of golden sand. Located near Porto Pollo in the municipality of Palau, this peninsula is one of the most characteristic highlights of northern Gallura, where nature, sea and wind shape a landscape that combines tranquillity and movement.

The natural layout of the land creates two broad bays on opposite sides of the sandy isthmus. On the more sheltered side, the water is usually calm and luminous, with sandy seabeds that gently slope away from shore, revealing hues that shift from emerald green near the coast to light turquoise farther out. On the opposite side, the sea is more exposed to prevailing winds — especially the mistral — producing more dynamic water movement and deeper shades of blue. This dual aspect offers diverse marine conditions just a few meters apart.

The shoreline is composed of fine pale sand, while low dunes and Mediterranean scrub frame the back of the beach, giving way to gently rolling granite hills typical of the Gallura landscape. From the water, Isuledda looks like a delicate sand bridge between two distinct marine worlds, welcoming visitors to choose the side that best suits the day’s conditions.

Arriving here aboard a dinghy allows you to appreciate fully this unique duality: you can drop anchor in the smoother waters for a peaceful swim, or navigate the more open side to enjoy a scenic cruise framed by vistas of the nearby La Maddalena Archipelago.
